The Cloud, EGA’s library, is situated on the top floor of the building with panoramic views of the city. With state of the art technology and a great collection of resources, the library is a peaceful place for students to work and relax, and for holding classes.

The Cloud is a popular place for students to spend time. There is open access before and after school, at break and lunchtimes, where students spend time reading, selecting books and completing homework and research for projects. During lesson time The Cloud is used for class bookings and individual study.

We have a large collection of fiction and young adult fiction books, revision guides, reference books, non-fiction and DVDs. Every year 7, 8 and 9 English class has a timetabled reading lesson in the library to reinforce the importance of reading in the curriculum.

There are tables for individual and group work and comfortable seating, and an interactive whiteboard for teaching and learning.

Author events, competitions and activities are a regular part of The Cloud’s calendar. Two reading groups meet weekly in The Cloud and take part in the annual Carnegie Shadowing event. We also run the annual EGA reading festival featuring authors Faye Bird, Keren David, Candy Gourlay, Miriam Halahmy, Jane Hardstaff, Catherine Johnson, Sita Bramachari, Sara Grant and Sufiya Ahmed as well as running individual author events.

Access to Young Adult and Adult Fiction

Some fiction library books are restricted for borrowing to only Year 9 and above. This is due to themes and content in the novels that may be unsuitable for younger readers. There is a wide range of books available for Years 7 and 8, who have their own dedicated section in the library. This includes shorter novels and non-fiction. See the librarian if you need help making a choice.

EGA St Pancras Reading Map

The EGA St Pancras reading map is based on the London Underground map, with each colour coded line representing a different genre of fiction. Students use the map to facilitate reading and choice of books, to broaden their reading in a particular genre.

Once a student reads 10 books from the Reading Map, they receive a bronze bookworm award badge. After reading 20 they receive a silver award and after 50 they receive a gold award!
