ICT
Year 7 & 8
ICT in Years 7 and 8 is delivered through skills lessons and within subjects. In years 9 and 10 ICT is taught within the curriculum of a range of subjects including science and languages.
Year 11
OCR Nationals in ICT (Level 2)
Year 11 ICT option students will follow the OCR Nationals (from 2010) qualification.
Students will work on the following units:
Unit 1 ICT Skills for Business
This is a compulsory unit where students use a range of applications to develop safe working practices and produce business documents like business cards, business newsletters and business presentations that are fit for purpose. Students also develop their spreadsheet, database and e-mail/internet skills. Consideration is given to issues relating to copyright and privacy.
Unit 7 Databases
Students learn how to effectively plan and create a relational database that is user-friendly and fit for the purpose. A wide range of software skills are used to an advanced level where students create parameter queries, data input forms, reports based on queries and a user-interface that will give the end-user access to the main areas of the database. Tests are carried out to ensure that all parts of the database work and that the objectives have been met.
Unit 22 Creating Sound
Students learn how to effectively review sound clips produced by others. They learn how to effectively plan and produce their own sound clip which will show the good use of a range of sound editing skills like splitting/trimming, importing sound clips and effects like panning.
Units are graded pass, merit or distinction.
No exam and 100% coursework. The collection of 3 units is externally moderated in June.
Functional Skills
Students in Year 9, 10 and 11 who take the preparation for GCSE course or ICT within the personalised programme will take the ICT functional skills exam.
