EGA, we believe in the potential of every student. Whilst all girls follow the national curriculum, we have a range of other courses and activities to ensure that we meet individual needs. In addition to the formal curriculum, there is a huge range of additional opportunities to inspire and interest our students.
Girls at EGA appreciate the friendly, safe environment which is welcoming to all. Respect and tolerance are actively promoted and the care of the individual is of primary importance. We believe that all students should have at least one adult who knows them well and to whom they can turn to for support during their five years at the school. Girls are organised into tutor groups and we have a team of specialist support staff who work closely with the tutors in ensuring that every girl has the guidance and care she needs.
At EGA we believe it is very important to work together with families to ensure the best possible education for their children. We encourage families to talk to us about concerns and we provide regular reports on individuals and a weekly newsletter for more general information. Through regular contact parents and carers can make a valuable contribution to their child’s success and achievement. We have the highest of expectations of our students. This is not just in terms of academic achievement but also in taking up their role within the community. Students can become members of the Year or School Council and in the Upper School, they can apply to take up the role of Senior. We hope our students will develop the confidence and self belief which will stay with them long after they have left Elizabeth Garrett Anderson.
There are opportunities for all to develop their creative and expressive abilities. Music, Drama and Art are central to the life of the school and there are many opportunities to work with professional actors, poets, musicians, artists and dancers and to develop and showcase individual talents.
Girls at EGA enjoy a wide range of sporting opportunities and are encouraged to try new activities for enjoyment, to encourage team work and to promote a healthy lifestyle. In addition to our on-site facilities we make extensive use of the local swimming pool and sports centre.
Looking to the Future
We work very closely with City & Islington College where every girl is entitled to a place on an appropriate course. Some of our staff teach at the college and in the future some students could continue studying some subjects here at the school. The shape of education from the ages of 14-19 is changing and at EGA we are committed to working in partnership with other institutions to ensure that our students have the widest choice and excellence in terms of teaching and learning and facilities.
‘It’s a great school if you’re ambitious and want to learn’ ‘We have the chance to develop our talents and to perform both in and outside school’ ‘The future depends on schools like ours’ ‘I feel like I’m part of the family. I know everyone cares about me’ ‘My time at EGA has been fantastic. I’ve learnt so much and I’ve gained so much confidence about what I can do’ ‘We try to make learning challenging and fun’ ‘Creating a safe, supportive environment where everyone can learn and achieve’ ‘I’ve had the chance to try so many new things which I didn’t know I could do’
