All students in Years 7 – 11 have the right to Careers Education and Guidance about the pathways and choices which are open to them.
This means students will be offered: - A programme of careers lessons at different times during Years 7 – 11 - Work experience to help them learn about working life - Access to up to date careers information - Open, fair, honest and impartial advice about all the routes open in education, work and training - Help to work out what will suit them best , how to make sensible decisions and what action they need to take. - The opportunity to learn skills and gain knowledge needed for their future
This will be provided by: - The PHSE / Careers Coordinator - The Work Experience Coordinator - Their PSHE/Careers teacher - The form tutor - A Connexions Personal Advisor through whole group sessions in their PHSE/Careers lessons - Students are entitled to confidential help on their own, or with their parent if they wish. - This will be provided by a Connexions Personal Advisor. - The Connexions Personal Advisor will see students on a one to one basis for a Careers Guidance interview and will run a drop in session once a week at lunchtime in the Connexions Resource Centre (B 201) - All the above staff will help them to think about their hopes and ambitions and then advise them how to move forward.
Post 16 Options As part of the guidance given to students they will follow a comprehensive programme dedicated to post 16 education and training options. This will be delivered during Key Stage 4 via PHSE/Careers lessons and /or with the Connexions Personal Advisor and will take the form of: - Advice on college applications - Impartial Careers Guidance - Interview College interview preparation References Academic achievement forecasts (based on school assessments)
