In the modern world the use of the Internet is an essential research skill which all pupils need to develop. At Elizabeth Garrett Anderson we have extensive computer facilities to support our pupils’ learning. Students have access to the Internet and e-mail during some lessons, in the library, at clubs and after school in study support sessions.
Keeping Safe We have a sophisticated filtering system that aims to prevent all access to any illegal or offensive material. Students are taught about the dangers of Internet use and the safety rules they must follow.
We would encourage all parents to ensure that at home the use of the Internet is always properly supervised. Parents are used to monitoring what their children watch on TV. Monitoring the use of the Internet is even more important.
Tips for using the Internet Information stored on the school servers may be checked by the Network Administrator at any time. Files are therefore not always private. Always ask “Is it true?” Do not assume that information on the Internet or written in e-mails is true.
Think before you: SEARCH:What are the key words? Is this the best site to use? PRINT: It is better to copy and paste the bits you need. Don’t waste time and money printing pages you don’t need.
