EGA Young Reporters Visit BBC Broadcasting House

On Thursday, seven EGA  BBC Young Reporters were invited to spend the afternoon at Broadcasting House as part of the national Young Reporters Day. Students were chosen based on their interest in writing and the media and certainly had an incredible opportunity to get behind the scenes at  BBC headquarters. Their first task was to interview journalists from the BBC Asian Network and then a tour of the studio from where the service is broadcast. Students were then given a tour of Radio 1 where they saw the DJs broadcasting live to the nation. A highlight was visiting BBC Weather, where meteorologist Nick Miller gave our students the chance to present the weather using a green screen and the day's latest forecast. It was an inspiring opportunity for our Young Reporters, giving them an insight into the many careers open to them in the media. Thank you to everyone at the BBC who made the day possible!

Parent Seminar on Thursday 20th June 2pm-3pm

On Thursday 20th June, we are holding the first of a series of seminars for parents.  A particular focus will be on keeping your daughter safe in the wider community.  Given the increase in the number of hate crimes being reported in recent years, we feel a duty to equip and empower our families with knowledge about where to access support. The first seminar will have a particular focus on tackling the Islamophobia that is often experienced in the wake of terror attacks, but will have advice relevant to all communities. It will include speakers from different organisations, community leaders, and a representative from the Metropolitan Police, who will address this issue and provide practical steps on how to stay safe and who you can turn to in order to get support. There will also be an opportunity in the end to ask questions to the panel.   If you are planning to attend this seminar, please could you RSVP by asking your daughter to return to the reply slip to the office, or by calling reception.  We need to have an idea of numbers so we can organise refreshments and an appropriate sized room.  We are also exploring panels to provide advice and support for other groups: those that experience discrimination or hate crime because of their race, gender, sexuality or disability. Suggestions from families on other topics that it would be helpful for us to arrange parent seminars on are very welcome.  Please email them to or call reception.
