Sustainability at EGA

Our Mission Statement:

We will build an eco-friendly school where students and staff are well educated and empowered to make positive change to our environment, starting a chain reaction beyond EGA and into the community"

I am incredibly proud to share that Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School has once again been awarded the Eco-Schools Green Flag with Distinction for the second year in a row! This award puts EGA as a national leader in sustainability in the education sector.

This exceptional achievement is the result of the hard work, creativity, and commitment of our Eco Leaders, a passionate group of student environmental advocates, and our dedicated Sustainability Team of staff members and school governors. Together, they have driven real change across our school community, promoting sustainability, raising awareness, and taking meaningful action.

To receive this award two years running, and both times with distinction, is a testament to their vision, teamwork, and determination - David Shemoon Deputy Headteacher & ECO School Champion

A huge congratulations and thank you to everyone involved "Add a little bit of body text

Gardening Club

Gardening club has been in full swing. Students have made and decorated bird and bug houses and have now begun planting lavender in the raised beds outside the lecture theatre. The warm smell of lavender has been radiating around EGA. We very much welcome anyone else who would like to join on Fridays at 3pm"

Year 7 Vaping Assembly Posted on: 21/01/2026

Year 7 Vaping Assembly

This week, our Year 7 students took part in an important and informative assembly delivered by NHS professionals, focusing on the growing epidemic of vaping among young people. The assembly helped students understand what vaping is, why it is harmful, and how marketing tactics, such as colourful packaging, appealing flavours, and social media influence, are often used to make vaping seem harmless and attractive. Students were encouraged to think critically about peer pressure and the long-term impact vaping can have on their health and wellbeing. We recognise the vital role parents and carers play in supporting young people and preventing vaping, and we are committed to working together to keep our community informed and safe. Support for parents and carers Young people can be particularly vulnerable to vaping due to flavours, trends, and peer influence. Parents and carers are encouraged to: Talk openly and calmly with your child about vaping and its risks. Be aware of how flavours, packaging, and social media can make vaping appealing. Encourage your child to ask questions and reassure them they can come to you if they feel pressured. Look out for changes in behaviour or unfamiliar devices, and seek advice early if you have concerns.
