Rewards at EGA

At EGA, rewards are designed to recognise effort, attitude and personal growth, not just results. We believe that success looks different for every student and we celebrate the steps students take to challenge themselves, improve and support others.

Achievement Points

Achievement points are at the heart of rewards at EGA. They are awarded consistently across all year groups and are directly linked to recognition and rewards.

Students can earn achievement points for demonstrating effort such as:

  • Answering questions even when unsure

  • Attempting challenge tasks

  • Going above and beyond with home learning

  • Helping others and taking positive risks in learning

Effort is individual: what is challenging for one student may not be challenging for another, and this is recognised and valued.

Daily Rewards

Teachers regularly recognise positive effort and attitudes during lessons, including through:

  • Recognition Boards where students are acknowledged for their effort and contribution
  • Star of the Lesson awarded at the end of every lesson for effort, attitude, and growth (not academic ability). Teachers explain why the student earned the award so expectations are clear.

Weekly Rewards

Every Friday, Tutors award a Golden Ticket to one student during tutor time.

The Golden Ticket allows the student to skip the lunch queue on Friday, recognising consistent effort and positive conduct.

Half-Termly Rewards

Each achievement point contributes towards a reward threshold, allowing students to see the impact of their effort over time:

  • Bronze
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Platinum

At the end of each half term, students can exchange their achievement points at the tuck shop, unlocking rewards based on the threshold they have reached. Prizes include stationery items and a range of other rewards, reinforcing the message that sustained effort is valued and rewarded.

Termly Rewards

Each term, EGA hosts a ‘Without Limits’ Breakfast to celebrate exceptional students who consistently live out the school’s ethos. Students are nominated by subject areas for demonstrating one of the following:

  • Strive Without Limits
  • Learn Without Limits
  • Lead Without Limits

Nominated students are invited to a special breakfast attended by the Headteacher and their Year Team. During the event, students receive:

  • A certificate of recognition
  • A special breakfast
  • A photo opportunity to celebrate their achievementThis event highlights outstanding effort, leadership, and commitment across all areas of school life.

Our Rewards Philosophy

At EGA:

  • We do not reward luck

  • We do not reward perfection

  • We do reward effort, resilience and growth

Our rewards system supports our school values:

Strive without limits · Learn without limits · Lead without limits

The EGA Charity Launch event Posted on: 9/10/2025

The EGA Charity Launch event

On a vibrant evening filled with pride and purpose, the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School officially launched its new charity initiative with a spectacular event that brought together staff, students, alumni, and special guests. The event marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the school’s journey to provide even greater opportunities for its students. The evening opened with heartfelt speeches from key figures in the EGA community. Headteacher Sarah Beagley spoke passionately about the vision for the charity and how it will enrich the educational experience for current and future students. Jo Dibb, Chair of Trustees and former EGA Headteacher, reflected on the school's rich legacy and the importance of continued support to maintain its high standards and inclusive ethos. A highlight of the evening was the visit from Tina Tchen, representing the Obama Foundation. Tina shared moving reflections on the long-standing partnership between the foundation and EGA, highlighting how the shared commitment to empowering young women has had a lasting impact on both sides of the Atlantic. The event also featured an inspiring student panel, showcasing the journeys of four exceptional EGA alumni: Dr Khadija Owusu, Eunice Obianagha, Councillor Jasmine Martins, and Olga Popiolek. Each shared stories of their time at EGA and professional successes since leaving, offering insight, motivation, and pride to the audience. Their stories were a testament to the powerful foundation EGA provides and the possibilities that lie ahead for current students. Throughout the evening, EGA students represented the school with confidence and poise, demonstrating their potential is, as the school motto states, without limits. The night concluded with a show-stopping performance of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ , which left the audience moved and inspired; a fitting end to a night celebrating community, talent, and ambition.
