Admissions for Year 6 2025

If you wish to apply to EGA, it has to be done online via www.islington.gov.uk. Their telephone number is 020 7527 5515. This will get you directly through to admissions.

Places are offered based on statutory admissions criteria as follows:

Children on the waiting list will be ranked in the following order, in line with our published admission criteria: (applies to community schools only)

1.    Looked after children and children who have been adopted (or made subject to residence orders or special guardianship orders) immediately after being looked after

2.    Siblings

3.    Exceptional medical, social or special educational needs

4.    Distance

Distance will be used as a tiebreaker for over-subscription criteria 1- 3. 

The last pupil admitted under the distance criterion lived 1.506 miles from the school (academic year 2021-22).

The EGA Charity Launch event

On a vibrant evening filled with pride and purpose, the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School officially launched its new charity initiative with a spectacular event that brought together staff, students, alumni, and special guests. The event marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter in the school’s journey to provide even greater opportunities for its students. The evening opened with heartfelt speeches from key figures in the EGA community. Headteacher Sarah Beagley spoke passionately about the vision for the charity and how it will enrich the educational experience for current and future students. Jo Dibb, Chair of Trustees and former EGA Headteacher, reflected on the school's rich legacy and the importance of continued support to maintain its high standards and inclusive ethos. A highlight of the evening was the visit from Tina Tchen, representing the Obama Foundation. Tina shared moving reflections on the long-standing partnership between the foundation and EGA, highlighting how the shared commitment to empowering young women has had a lasting impact on both sides of the Atlantic. The event also featured an inspiring student panel, showcasing the journeys of four exceptional EGA alumni: Dr Khadija Owusu, Eunice Obianagha, Councillor Jasmine Martins, and Olga Popiolek. Each shared stories of their time at EGA and professional successes since leaving, offering insight, motivation, and pride to the audience. Their stories were a testament to the powerful foundation EGA provides and the possibilities that lie ahead for current students. Throughout the evening, EGA students represented the school with confidence and poise, demonstrating their potential is, as the school motto states, without limits. The night concluded with a show-stopping performance of ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’ , which left the audience moved and inspired; a fitting end to a night celebrating community, talent, and ambition.

The most rewarding aspect of leading this club is watching other students grow confidence in their own opinions and reasoning. In just two weeks, I have noticed a real shift in energy and enthusiasm. Maths Homework

Starting 11th September Students in Years 8-10 Will Use Sparx Maths for Weekly Homework. What is Sparx Maths Homework? Sparx Maths provides personalised, achievable homework tailored to each student’s needs. Most questions are based on recent learning, with some review of past topics to reinforce knowledge. Homework is completed online, with instant feedback, but students are expected to show their working in their workbooks. Sparx includes “bookwork checks” to encourage this habit. Each question comes with a support video, helping students work independently when they need assistance. Homework will be set and due every week on a Thursday How Can You Support Your Child with Sparx Homework? Provide a quiet space for focused work. Encourage them to start early in case they need help from their teacher. Homework must be fully completed—all compulsory questions must be attempted. Check Sparx’s weekly email and praise their effort. Remind them to finish before the deadline. What Support is Available in School? Maths homework club will take place in H1 after school on the following days Monday for Year 7 and Year 8 Tuesday for Year 9 and Year 10 If you have any questions, please contact your child's Maths teacher

Attendance & Punctuality

We’d like to remind families about the importance of regular attendance and being on time to school. Arriving on time helps students start the day calmly, stay engaged, and not miss important instructions. It also teaches responsibility and good habits. Frequent absences, even just a few days each month, can affect a student’s progress and confidence. We understand that illness and emergencies happen, but we ask that appointments and travel be scheduled outside school hours whenever possible. Please remember: Gates open at 8:20am. Arriving late can disrupt learning. Email attendance@egas.islington@sch.uk or log on Arbor if your child will be absent, ideally before 9am.
