Islington Sports Awards Evening

On Monday 24 June, the PE department took the Year 7 netball team to the Islington Sports Awards Evening.  Each PE department in Islington Borough selects their most successful teams to be part of the competition. EGA selected the Year 7 netball team as they performed fantastically throughout the Islington Borough Tournament. As a department, we were most impressed by how they progressed throughout the tournament, with a better understanding of specific tactics and week by week, they developed as a team finishing first place in the tournament.  As well as this, the team then went on to perform at the London Youth Games. This was an incredibly demanding day for them and although they didn’t make it to the podium they displayed excellent resilience, never giving up despite how challenging the games were.

I am extremely pleased to be able to announce that EGA Year 7 netball team won the female team of the year award 2019. A huge congratulations to all the girls involved: From left to right: Basak, Alex, Dominika, Iris and Randa. Ruby, Ellis and Hannah were also key members of the team.

Sara was nominated as sports leader of the year at the Islington Sports Awards Evening. Each PE department selected their strongest sports leader for the year and Sara was up against all other nominees from all the schools in the Borough of Islington. Sara captained the Year 7 football team, each week she organised and lead the team in warm ups and drills. As well as this, she took a lead role in managing the team, producing weekly team sheets with positions for each game. She has also shown great leadership qualities throughout the year in PE lessons, organising her class through pulse raiser tasks and stretching exercises weekly, as well as leading on activities during the lesson. She has been an asset to PE at EGA School.

I am extremely pleased to be able to announce Sara won the sports leader of the year 2019. A huge congratulations to her.
