Posted on: 7/02/2019Harry Potter NightHundreds of candles hung from the ceiling, letters to 'Privet drive' were scattered around the place, a magical sorting hat was placed upon a table: thanks to Charlie, Ms Cheetham, Ms Singh, Ms Gately and Ms Gibson-Faux, our EGA library transformed into Hogwarts for a night. We were gleefully sorted into houses, using the sorting hat and took part in making a fantastical creature for our house, gaining house points throughout. We had a mega quiz, where all Harry Potter fans could share their knowledge, the excitement in the atmosphere building as Ravenclaw were revealed the winners of this amazing night. Everyone involved had a fantastic time and would recommend for any Harry Potter fans to come and take part next year. By Annachiara and Jasmine, Year 7

Posted on: 14/01/2019Holocaust Memorial DayAs Holocaust Memorial Day approaches, KS4 Humanities students and students from KS3 who worked on the Anne Frank Project were very privileged to hear the story of a survivor of the Holocaust, Lady Zahava Kohn. Lady Kohn (now in her eighties) with her daughter, Hephzibah, spoke at length about her experiences in Westerbork and Bergen Belsen concentration camps during World War Two. Her talk brought about lots of thought-provoking questions from our students and she was extremely impressed by these. Holocaust Memorial Day is on Sunday 27 January.
Posted on: 8/12/2018Dance NewsThe Rock Challenge set crew were hard at work this Saturday, thank you for giving up your Saturday and thank you also to Alice Angus-Lane for all your time and efforts in supporting the set crew. Time is flying by and we're almost nearing the completion of our set and costumes for this years Rock Challenge entry. Our theme this year is plastic pollution, everything we are making is from recycled materials that have been donated by students and staff. We are also reusing costumes from previous years to give them a new lease of life to fit in with our recycling idea. Why are we interested in this theme? Well, did you know that 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year? That is 1 truck load every minute. It really is making us think about plastic use.
Posted on: 3/12/2018Some of our Favourite Quotes from Michelle Obama's Visit Michelle Obama touched us all with her powerful words of encouragement during her visit to EGA on Monday. She spoke about diversity, community and the importance of sisterhood. Here are a few highlights from her talk that we feel will stay with us throughout our lives... For the full photo album of the day, click here: /296/school-gallery/cat/72/michelle-obamas-visit-2018 For news coverage of the day, click here: The Evening Standard ITV News “I want you all to start practising that kind of sisterhood. We don’t have the luxury of tearing each other down. Our job as women is to do our best at lifting each other up. “There are enough people out there ready to tear us down, our job is to lift each other up, so we have to start practising now. There is no room for mean girls and cliques and social complications that naturally come at your age. I want you to be mindful of that.” “That is one thing we can do better as women, we can take better care of each other.” “Part of what we have to do is expose them to the opportunities. All kids can only dream things that are known to them. If they don’t see elite colleges, if they don’t know they exist, they don’t know what to dream of.” “We don’t have any choice but to make sure we elders are giving our young people a reason to hope.” “In the past election, rather than campaigning for a candidate, we invested time in educating people about the power of voting.”

Posted on: 5/11/2018Debate MateEight students attended the launch of Debate Mate last week in Westminster. They watched a show debate from students aged 13-18, who had some lively and interesting arguments to support and disagree with the motion: 'The voting age should be lowered to 16'. There was a great atmosphere with schools from all over London getting ready to debate. Please can you wish our students who are about to embark on the programme luck; they will begin their training this Monday!
Posted on: 16/10/2018Debate ItOn Tuesday 16 October, 12 of our Year 7 students went to Hogan Lovells Law firm to participate in the 'Debate It' training programme with other schools from the Islington Borough. The purpose of the training was to provide the students with an insight into how the 'Debate World' works and its role in the community and the impacts on individual lives. The EGA students worked really well in teams with other schools to develop their public speaking skills and they did this maturely and professionally. They had the opportunity to voice their ideas and present to the audience during the duration of the training. The 12 EGA students will be continuing their training in school by attending the Debate It club after half term and preparing for the Debate It Competition next year.
