Year 10 students from schools across Islington took to the stage, sharing their perspectives on topics they felt strongly about. It was an incredibly positive evening, giving these young people a platform to articulate their opinions and engage their audience. A huge well done to our fantastic EGA speakers, Yasmine (who came in an honorable third!), Sofia, and Zahra, who delivered passionate and compelling speeches. They represented our school brilliantly! The event's success was also thanks to our wonderful volunteers and performers; Year 11 Student Volunteers for your hard work and dedication, ensuring the evening ran smoothly and professionally and special shout-out to our musical performers Heja and Selina, who captivated the audience with their beautifully performed songs. It was a brilliant celebration of confidence, communication, and community. Congratulations to all who took part!
Posted on: 23/10/2025BHM AssembliesThis year, the Black History Month assembly celebrated diversity, culture and belonging through a range of performances. This year's theme Standing Firm in Power and Pride was explored through the achievements of two key Black women - Madam C.J Walker and Kitty Black Perkins - for the barriers they broke in their respective industries (haircare and dolls). The assembly was filled with creative performances from a Year 10 poetry performance, Year 11 dancers and finally to the choir, who sang a medley of iconic songs by Black female artists ranging from Chaka Khan to Rhianna. We hope the Black History Month assembly was inspiring to all and thank you for all your support and participation! - The Student Equalities Team
Posted on: 9/05/2025Identity WeekThe unique thing about our school is its wide diversity and Identity Week, ending with a non-school uniform day on Friday, reminds every staff and pupil how special they are. Identity Week has been an important part of the EGA calendar for a few years and each year, we aim to teach everyone about a different aspect of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion. Our theme this year was 'Who Am I?' where student leaders led assemblies and a Thought For The Week to discuss the importance of acceptance and allyship, understanding intersectionality and recognising that humans are wonderful and complex. This year Identity Week also supports ActionAid, a charity working to end violence and fighting poverty so that all women and girls, everywhere, can create the future they want. We Raised £309.77

Posted on: 8/12/2023Book of the Month - December For December’s Book of the Month we are going back to 1813, and what I call ‘the OG rom com’, Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen (1775-1817). Mr and Mrs Bennet belong to a social group known as ‘the genteel poor’, they have social standing but not a great deal of wealth, and no son to inherit what they do have, instead they have 5 daughters. It is imperative that they marry off their daughters to ensure their financial security and set about immersing their offspring in social gatherings to introduce them to eligible bachelors. 2 of these men are Mr Darcy and Mr Wickham. In this social satire featuring a big cast of characters, Austen weaves her way through upper class English society, featuring among it an unattractive suitor who will keep the Bennet estate within the family (Mr Collins), a melodramatic mother (Mrs Bennet), 2 cynical and intelligent sisters (Jane, and our heroine Elizabeth), a flighty teenager (Lydia Bennet), and a group of mean girls (Mr Darcy’s sisters). These characters could just as easily exist in a modern romantic comedy. This book may be more than 200 years old but it still offers a giggle, and a look into a time when writers were evasive about the provenance of an individual’s wealth (most likely slavery, see Said’s Orientalism), and women were essentially commodities.
